So, you made it through the holidays? Congratulations! (*insert clap). As stressful as it might have been, you’re able to finally relax for a little while. And by “little while” we all know that means for just a moment.
After all, the new year means that you should finally get to all of those tasks that you’ve been putting off around the house. Once the Christmas decorations are taken down, why not do a few things to brighten the place up a little bit? Here are a few tips you can do to get your home in order this new year!
Clear out the clutter
Let’s face it, we all have way too much stuff around our homes, and the holiday season often makes it that much worse! As well-meaning as they might be, friends and relatives are always filling our homes with random stuff that we have no real use for, which takes up space in our home. Take this as an opportunity to clear out the junk that’s been cluttering up your home for so long. Sure, you might want to hang onto things, but it’s worth being really brutal about what you want to keep and what you want to get rid of. Unless you really can’t bear to get rid of it, it’s worth putting it into storage at the very least.
Do some repairs
Pretty much everyone has a few issues here and there around their home that they’ve been putting off dealing with. The holidays are a particularly tough time since you don’t really have the time or the money to deal with them. So, use this as an opportunity to finally get them sorted. Whether you hire a plumber to deal with leaking pipes or need some work done on your furnace (call a professional like AC repair by Stuart Pro Heating & Air), getting some repairs done around the house can make your life much more pleasant.
Even if you feel like you can handle the repairs yourself, now is the perfect time to flex those DIY muscles. Because most people can paint! So why not…
Change the paint
Sometimes, even the simplest changes to your home can have the biggest impact. You might not think that adding a lick of paint to the walls is going to make that much of a difference, but it really can work wonders when it comes to bringing a room to life. Maybe you could try experimenting with different colors that you might not usually try or perhaps you just want to brighten things up when they’ve started to become a little bit dull. Either way, a fresh coat of paint can completely change the way a room feels.
This may seem like a no-brainer, but most people don’t have the time to do a deep dust cleaning. Think ceiling fans, ceilings, the tops of pictures, curtain rods. You name it. The home collects so much dust over time, especially if you have animals. The new year makes for a good time to deep clean your home.
Of course, there are probably plenty of other things you have in mind that need doing around the house, like cleaning the basement, and these are just a few examples. Why not get your new year off to the best possible start by finally getting those things off your to-do list? It’s amazing how little changes can make you feel so much better about your home space.
